The collection consists of an album of 143 black and white photographs, 1921-1927 and 1933. The album belonged to A.F. (Ancil F.) Haines; a handwritten caption inside the front cover reads "A.F. Haines VP & GM - [Vice president and general Manager] The Admiral Line, Seattle, Wash." The majority of the photographs depict Admiral Line operations and events aboard ships and in office buildings, as well as Admiral Line personnel, including several portraits of Robert Dollar. Includes photos of offices and operations in Kobe, Japan; Dairen, Manchuria; Shanghai; and Hong Kong. Most photographs are captioned on page in white ink with description and identifications.

Ancil F. Haines (1872-1937) was a leading figure in Pacific Coast shipping in the early 1900s. In 1912, Haines worked as a manager for the Dodwell & Co. shipping company. He then became manager of Border Line Transportation Co., a steamship line organized by Dodwell for the purpose of engaging in the Puget Sound-B.C.-Alaska freight trade.
